Fountain Valley Population Grows 0.6 Percent

Fountain Valley's population grew by 0.6 percent last year, new government figures show.

According to statistics released by the state Department of Finance, the city gained 333 people, increasing the city's population to 56,180 as of Jan 1. 

Overall Orange County saw an 0.8 percent rise, gaining 23,925 people in 2012. As of Jan. 1, the county’s population was 3,081,804.

Numbers show Irvine is the fastest growing city in Orange County and the seventh-fastest growing in the state.  

The top three largest cities were Los Angeles, San Diego and San Jose. Long Beach was seventh and Anaheim was No. 10, the only Orange County city on the top 10 list. 

California's population increased by 0.8 percent to 37,966,471.
