Watch for Delays: Fountain Valley to Repave Part of Brookhurst

Construction is expected to begin the first week of July.

A section of an often-traveled road in Fountain Valley will soon get a makeover.

This summer the city will begin repaving Brookhurst Street from Slater Avenue to Warner Avenue, according to city staff.

Crews will remove and rebuild dilapidated sections of the street and place a new two-inch thick rubber-asphalt covering over the entire street.

Worker will also replace the concrete median curbs, replant new drought tolerant plants and trees and replace the curbs, gutters, sidewalks and curb ramps.

Fountain Valley employees expect construction to begin the first week of July and hope to have it completed by mid-August. Work will take place 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday through Thursday. Work will not be scheduled during holidays.

Mayor Mark McCurdy Patch alerted Patch about the upcoming construction in a phone conversation Thursday and said he wanted people to be aware of what's going on in the city.

According to city staff, several traffic lanes may be closed at any given time, however, there will be at least one lane open to traffic at all times. Crews will put up construction alert signs in several locations to alert motorists.

“As with any major construction project, expect long traffic delays and temporary lane closures,” reads a statement from the city’s Public Works Department. “Motorists are highly encouraged to use alternate routes during peak travel time.”
