Is Rainbow Disposal Really Overcharging Us? Their Competition Thinks So

Who is the West Orange County Taxpayers Association?

Hanging on the door this morning was this notice that we may be getting hosed by the City's contracted trash collectors -- Rainbow Disposal out of Huntington Beach.

The originators of the hanger (these things aren't cheap to distribute, even if they recruit their neighborhood walkers from the Home Depot parking lot) identify themselves as the West Orange County Taxpayers Association, but a quick Google search can't find a website or phone number for them.

Let's assume then that Rainbow's competitors have targeted Fountain Valley.  Per the City, Rainbow's contract is NOT up for renewal, but procedurally, with an amount of notice, it could be rebid.  This "Association" must be bogus, and I'm also wondering if labeling themselves as such is legal.

HAD the "WOCTA" been paying closer attention and done their homework, they would have realized that tonight's City Council meeting is all about approval of the .  We'll presume these folks will have something to say during Unsheduled Public Comments at meeting's end since there's nothing about Rainbow on the Agenda.  That's just bad strategy, as is distributing door hangers without better identifying yourself and your own agenda.

Should the City BID ALL outsourced services like trash collection?  Absolutely, as competitively as possible.  Is Rainbow currently doing an adequate job for us?  IMO, yes they are, but any potential of having their costs actually reduced in these trying times ought to be welcomed and pursued by the City.
