9 Los Amigos Students Awarded Simon Foundation Scholarships

The scholarships provide financial support to students with college aspirations facing daunting personal and family challenges.

Nine sophomores from have been named as Simon Foundation Scholars for 2012:

  • Isaac Davila
  • Cecilia Fonseca
  • Andrea Garcia
  • Eric Phan
  • Christopher Quevedo
  • Cuong Tran
  • Brian Valdez

The scholarships are designed to help students trying to realize their college aspirations in the face of daunting personal and family challenges. The scholars were chosen after a rigorous screening and interview process for their commitment to overcoming adversity and achieving personal success while positively impacting the lives of others.

While in high school, the scholars receive intensive support to help them overcome the hurdles in preparation for higher education so they can be competitive and successful once they arrive for college. Each student receives a $1,000 cash stipend, a notebook computer, SAT preparation courses, college application assistance, tours of college campuses, academic tutoring, exposure to the arts, life-skills and leadership training, administrative and personal support, and potential internship opportunities.

Following high school graduation, students are each awarded a $16,000 needs-based college scholarship. In return, they must maintain solid academic performance, exhibit high standards of personal conduct, and demonstrate meaningful community service while serving as role models for other youth.
