Monroe Elementary to Host Los Amigos Tet Dance Team

Students from the high school's Asian Student Union will perform in honor of the Vietnamese lunar New Year.

Students from the Asian Student Union of Los Amigos High School in Fountain Valley will be welcoming the Year of the Dragon with cultural dances performed for youngsters at nearby Monroe Elementary School on Tuesday, Jan. 24, in celebration of Tet, the Vietnamese lunar New Year observance.

Tet, which is observed on Jan. 23 this year, represents the beginning of spring and is the most observed holiday in the Vietnamese community.

The visiting students from the high school’s Tet Dance Team will perform their graceful and acrobatic lion dance and showcase traditional Vietnamese clothing starting at 8:15 a.m., with a repeat performance at 9:15 a.m. The event also will include dancing and singing by children from Monroe School.

The Asian Student Union at Los Amigos High School has been active in promoting Asian cultural activities in Orange County since 1978.
