Non-Teacher Layoffs on School Board Agenda

The proposed layoffs are classified positions that are no longer necessary after the closure of Fred Moiola K-8 School.

The Fountain Valley School District's Board of Trustees will consider a resolution Thursday night that would lay off 11 classified employees that will not be needed next school year.

The bulk of the proposed layoffs stem from the closure of Fred Moiola K-8 School, and would include the school's administrative assistant, head custodian, health assistant and library technician.

The proposed layoffs also include two bus drivers who would no longer be needed because of state cuts to the district's transportation budget, which forced the district to discontinue home-to-school busing for regular education students starting next school year.

The board will also decide whether to form a surplus property advisory committee, which would be charged with designating the Moiola site as surplus property so that it can then proceed with deciding to sell or lease the land. The committee would be made up of between seven and 11 members of the community, as appointed by Superintendent Marc Ecker.
