Walking Down Lunchbox Memory Lane

Do you remember your favorite lunchbox? Today's kids have as many options as ever, but can anything ever really replace the Partridge Family or Scooby-Doo?

Lunchboxes have changed in design and shape over the years, but the basic idea is the same: Along with space inside for a cold drink, sandwich and snack, the cover is devoted to a favorite cartoon, character, TV show or movie.

That's why Justin Bieber, Darth Vader and Japanese cartoon characters are staring out at shoppers from the shelves of Target these days.

Back in the '70s, the lunchboxes were aluminum. In the '80s, they gave way to plastic.

Vintage lunchboxes now are highly collectible. They are displayed as collections in people's homes, and sometimes get their own art gallery shows. (Yes, I've gone to one.)

Do you remember your favorite lunchbox? What was it? Have a picture handy? Share it with Patch!

I had Holly Hobby, too! In the winters back east, we used to use our aluminum lunchboxes as mini sleds while we were waiting for the school bus! :)

I have a Bewitched lunch box and The Munster's lunch box. Both are missing the thermos's but I have them displayed in my office bookshelf at home! It brings a smile remembering some of my childhood favorite tv shows!

Not sure why I had "The Rifleman" since I am a girl.. but I covered it up with contact paper. Ah memories!

I had a wicker one in kindergarten which I now use to store my sons toys... I don't have or remember any of the plastic ones that came in the older grades... clogging a landfill somewhere for the next three hundred years!

I think I had a Popeye the Sailor Man lunchbox for first grade, Our Lady of Malibu 1967-68.
