Barons Open Season With Easy Win Over Rancho Alamitos

Senior Nathan Moss scored 17 points and grabbed 11 rebounds Monday as Fountain Valley opened its basketball season with a convincing 78-46 win over Rancho Alamitos in the first round of the La Quinta Shootout.

"We started somewhat slow but really picked up the intensity in the second half," Barons head coach Roger Holmes said. "I liked our total team effort getting 22 assists on 26 baskets."

Senior Zack Richartz added 16 points for the Barons, including four 3-pointers. Junior Tanner Trounce chipped in with 12 points and four rebounds.

The Barons took a 28-18 lead into the half before blowing the game wide open in the third quarter, outscoring Rancho Alamitos 26-7. The Barons will take on San Clemente in the second round on Wednesday.
