Barons Win Convincingly in Home Opener

Fountain Valley was running on all cylinders in an easy 67-47 win over Segerstrom.

The Fountain Valley boys basketball team started strong and finished even stronger Monday night in its home opener, looking polished on offense and imposing on defense in a 67-47 win over Segerstrom.

Josh Armstrong continued his solid shooting, leading the Barons (7-2) with 13 points and proving a solid second option at point guard. Fountain Valley showed some serious depth, using an eight-man rotation that allowed the Barons to play with added energy and efficiency on both ends of the floor. Sean Finley added 11 points for the Barons with some strong play on the inside, and Tanner Trounce hit for 10, mostly from outside.

After a back-and-forth first quarter, Fountain Valley was able to open things up in the second period and take a 38-27 lead into the half. Fountain Valley stretched the lead throughout the third quarter with some hot shooting and strong defense, and had the game in hand early in the fourth.

The Barons play on the road Tuesday night at Yorba Linda. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
