FV's Holmes Leads U.S. Men's Volleyball Team in Olympic Games
Team USA doesn't lose a set in two matches of pool play, but the fifth-seeded Americans will be tested Thursday by top-seeded Brazil.
Fountain Valley's 2012 Olympian Russell Holmes had 11 blocks and Long Beach State graduate David Lee add 13 more for the U.S. men’s volleyball team Tuesday in a three-set sweep over Germany 25-23, 25-16, 25-20 to improve to 2-0 in pool play.
Loyola Marymount graduate and Olympic veteran Reid Priddy scored eight points and accounted for five blocks.
The defending Olympic champions opened pool play Sunday with a three-set victory over seventh-ranked Serbia. Fountain Valley native Holmes had three of Team USA’s 16 blocks, helping the Americans dominate play at the net.

At the Beijing Games, the U.S. went undefeated and beat favorite Brazil in the final to take gold. The U.S. men’s volleyball team, which is based out of Anaheim and has four players with O.C. ties, sweep Serbia, 25-17, 25-22, 25-21.
The U.S. team, ranked fifth in the world, will take on top-ranked Brazil Thursday.
