Los Amigos Loses 8-3 to Talented Valley Christian Team

The Lobos improve their play after a 14-0 drubbing by Costa Mesa the day before.

Los Amigos baseball is off to a 0-2 Newport Elks Tournament start, but coach Art Maltby is still pleased by improvement the team showed after being shutout by Costa Mesa 14-0 the day before.

His team lost 8-3 to Valley Christian team from Cerritos on Saturday, but considering that Valley Christian is one of the better teams in the Southern Section of CIF, the loss wasn’t as bad as the score might indicate. “From a coach’s standpoint, I was real pleased,” Maltby said.

Maltby was especially impressed with the play of his left fielder Jorge Bedolla. Bedolla played well both offensively and defensively and impressed the crowd with a great diving catch in left field.

“Our pitchers are getting better and they are keeping the ball down,” Maltby said. “They did well overall.”

Maltby has a young team and they made four errors in the game. Now the key is to minimize the mistakes, he said.
