Summerfest Goes to the Dogs

The festival's final day featured a host of events for dogs and dog lovers alike.

For the past four years, Fountain Valley residents have been enjoying all Summerfest has to offer. But this year, the festival included something for their four-legged friends as well, as the festival hosted Dog Day Afternoon

A diverse array of dogs and their owners enjoyed a full agility course, a flyball demonstration, a flying disc competition, small races, and there were also several pet vendors and exhibitors where it was possible to sign up for pet
adoptions. Summerfest also had its full slate of regular activities, but without a doubt, the dog show was definitely the highlight of Summerfest on Sunday afternoon.

"I was absolutely thrilled when I found out Summerfest was going to have a dog show this year," said Gale Carney, whose Weimaraner, Oaklee, won the flying disc competition. "This is something I had always suggested to the Fountain Valley Committee and it has finally happened this year."

Though the dog competitions were a significant component of dog day, some of the vendors and exhibitors were also hoping to convince people to adopt some of the dogs they had. One of the vendors had six Dachsunds, which drew large crowds of adorig fans.

"I think it’s important to find these animals a home," said Latitia Thomas, who works for an organization that helps find shelters for animals. "There is nothing more important to me than to find these sweethearts a home and today this seems like the most suitable time and place for it."
