Canstruction Competition Raises Money for Orange County’s Hungry

The event involves architects and the community to collect food and funds for food banks.

Recreations of cartoon characters, movie icons and favorite things were on display at South Coast Plaza this weekend—and the displays featured canned foods used as building blocks! The event challenged area architects to design and build fun and fascinating structures, calling attention to the incredible need for support of Orange County’s food banks.

Chaired by Fountain Valley familiar face, Betsy Nickless, the group collected more than 70,000 cans of food, which were donated. Additionally, funds raised from sponsorships will support the cause, and the public is invited to participate with sponsorships, donations (cash or raffle items) and attendance at the group’s gala.

  • Sponsorships make the event possible, and provide exposure and involvement for businesses, groups and individuals. Visit the website for information.
  • The Gala will be held on Sunday September 18, 2011 from 6:30 to 9:30 pm, at On the Garden Terrace at South Coast PlazaTickets to the Awards Gala can be purchased on the website.
