UPDATE: Driver Crashes After Allegedly Racing on Newhope
Eyewitnesses tell police officers that two cars were traveling between 80 and 90 miles per hour before one lost control and ended up smashing into a parked vehicle.
Fountain Valley Police Sergeant Kurt Ulrich confirmed late Thursday that an 18-year-old man from Santa Ana was the driver involved in a speed contest that reached 90 miles an hour before crashing his vehicle on Newhope Avenue, but he could not identify the driver because no charges have yet to be filed pending a full investigation.
The driver of the blue Acura RSX-S was traveling southbound on the 17700 block of Newhope when he lost control of his vehicle, hit two fire hydrants and a street light before veering across the street, jumping the curb and smashing into a parked car in the American Red Cross Blood Donor Center parking lot at 1:19 p.m. Wednesday.
He was transported to an area hospital, but his condition was still unknown, according to Ulrich.

The driver of the second vehicle continued south on Newhope without stopping or slowing down. However, Ulrich said that according to witnesses, the vehicle returned to the scene a short time later, but again the driver fled before anyone could get a license plate number.
The second vehicle is described as a blue Subaru Impreza WRX, which is a turbocharged version of the Subaru Impreza. If anybody has information on the second vehicle, please contact Senior Officer Harry Harrison, the lead investigator in the case, at 714-593-4485, ext. 370.
