OC Holiday Events: Dec. 21-31

Boat parades, frozen kingdoms and more. Here's a rundown of holiday events in and around Orange County this weekend and beyond.

Friday, Dec. 21

• The 104th edition of the Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade has the theme “Surf, Sand and Santa!" and will feature decorated canoes and kayaks, as well as decked-out yachts, traveling along the harbor. It starts off Bay Island at 6:30 p.m. and should finish at the same spot around 9 p.m. The parade runs nightly through Dec. 23.

• The annual Christmas Train chugs through Irvine Regional Park in Orange through Dec. 23. Activities in Santa’s Village include story time with Mrs. Claus and a moon bounce. Irvine Regional Park, 1 Irvine Park Road, Orange.

• Decorated homes and boats are spotlighted during the Huntington Harbour Cruise of Lights, which runs nightly through Dec. 23. Several tours are offered each evening. Shuttles to the cruise leave from the Huntington Harbour Mall parking lot. Tickets are $17 for adults, $10 for children. 16889 Algonquin St.

• Hal Landon Jr. plays Scrooge for the 33rd year in Dickens’ classic A Christmas Carol at South Coast Repertory in Costa Mesa. Through Dec. 24. 655 Town Center Drive, Costa Mesa.

• The Ice Kingdom at Chill in Long Beach has taken winter to extremes by using 2 million pounds of ice to turn the Queen Mary Dome into an igloo. It’s cold enough that each visitor will be provided with a parka. Massive ice carvings were created by Chinese artisans, some of whom have participated in the Harbin International Ice and Snow Sculpture Festival. There’s also an ice slide, ice cave, Santa's Toyland, a Fairytale Castle, a Nativity scene, interfaith Ice Grotto and, of course, an outdoor ice rink. The parade's theme is “Surf, Sand and Santa!" and it features decorated canoes and kayaks, as well decked-out yachts traveling along the harbor. It starts off of Bay Island at 6:30 p.m. and should finish at the same spot around 9 p.m., when fireworks will be launched from the Balboa Pier.
