After Record Highs, OC Gas Prices Drop Nearly $1

The average price per gallon is about 90 cents less than early October's peak.

The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Orange County decreased Monday for the 42nd consecutive day, falling a half cent to $3.793, the lowest cost since July 23.

Orange County's average price has decreased 89.7 cents over the past 42 days, including six-tenths of a cent on Sunday, after rising 51.3 cents over the previous six days to a record high of $4.69 on Oct. 8, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.

The price is 5.6 cents less than one week ago and 73.1 cents lower than one month ago, but 1.8 cents more than one year ago. The streak of dropping prices is the longest since a 53-day streak that ended July 9.
