Fly Infestation Closes Green Farm Market

Three major health code violations lead county officials to briefly shut down the Fountain Valley store.

Orange County health inspectors closed the Green Farm Market on Tuesday after finding a fly infestation.

The grocery store violated three major health codes and 12 minor health codes, according to a county health report.

The market was closed for "unsanitary conditions." Flies were found in:

  • preparation areas for meat, seafood and produce
  • the warehouse
  • the front entrance to the food area 
  • customer seafood and produce areas

Foods were found at unsafe temperatures, including:

  • fresh rice noodles (74 degrees)
  • fish heads (62 degrees)
  • salmon skin (62 degrees)

Food should be stored below 41 degrees or above 135 degrees, according to the county.

Once discovered, the food was moved to a walk-in cooler.

The market's health permit was restored Wednesday. The county has not yet released a report on its follow-up inspection.
