Fountain Valley Police Celebrate New Hire, Promotions

After several lean recession years, the Fountain Valley Police Department is able to hire a new officer and promote several others.

The Fountain Valley Police Department on Tuesday welcomed newcomer Prince Hutchinson, promoted Sergeant Matt Sheppard to lieutenant and promoted Officers Jennifer Pratt and James Cataline to senior police officers.

The Officers

  • Sheppard has served on the force since February 2000, is pursuing his bachelor’s degree in management in law enforcement, and has held the positions of traffic motor officer, patrol sergeant and is currently the detective sergeant.
  • Pratt has been with the FVPD since July 2005, has a bachelor’s degree in occupational studies and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in education and administration. Pratt has held the positions of patrol officer and school resource officer and is currently a detective.
  • Officer James Cataline has been with the force since December 2005, has worked patrol and traffic as a police motorcycle officer. Cataline recently returned to patrol after completing five years in the Traffic Bureau and is completing a bachelor’s degree at Ashford University.
  • New-hire Prince Hutchinson originally joined the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department as a Deputy Sheriff in 2011. After serving the citizens of San Bernardino for a year, he decided to join the FVPD as an officer. Before his law enforcement career, Hutchinson served in the United States Army where he received several military awards, including a combat infantryman’s badge, expert rifle marksmen badge, army commendation medal, army achievement medal and good conduct medal.
