Monster Shark Caught Off OC Coast

A mako reeled in on Monday may be the largest ever captured.

A shark caught 15 miles off the coast of Huntington Beach on Monday might be a world record.

As reported by KTLA, three sport fisherman spent two hours reeling in the 12-foot mako shark, which weighed 1,333 pounds and measured 8 feet around its belly.

Texas fisherman Jason Johnston said the shark would be donated to a marine research center.

“This thing is definitely a killing machine,” Johnston told KTLA.

According to the International Shark Attack File, makos are responsible for only 1 percent of human attacks in California waters, tame compared to the Great White, which is credited with 97 percent of human attacks along the California coast.
