MONDAY ESSENTIALS: Fight Against Hunger Doesn't Break for Holidays

Christmas is near. New Year's is around the corner. This time of year, struggling families need food donations more than ever. Now is the time to donate.

Each year, thousands of families suffer through hunger in Los Angeles County.

The challenges are particularly difficult during the holiday season, when family celebrations begin to center around the dinner table.

Patch reminds readers that the week before Christmas is an ideal time to donate to benefit needy local families. Consider a donation of food of funds to Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County. The organization distributes more than 18 million pounds of food annually through hundreds of community partners.
