OC Business Woman Running For Clerk Recorder

Business woman, Monica Maddox, announced her candidacy for Orange County Clerk-Recorder.  If elected, Maddox will be the first woman to hold the office.  Among her goals are to increase transparency and improve delivery of service in the Clerk-Recorder's office.

Orange County government received harsh criticism from the OC Grand Jury for fostering a "culture of corruption".  The Grand Jury cited the vast number of appointments of unqualified people made by the OC Board of Supervisors in their report.  Maddox points out that the current appointed Clerk-Recorder, Hugh Nguyen, is one of their appointments.  Prior to the appointment, he worked for the Board of Supervisors in a non managerial post.

Maddox is the only candidate from the private sector and has vowed not to take the current county pension of 2.7% at age 55.  This formula has been widely criticized as creating a substantial unfunded pension liability.  Nguyen is currently participating in this pension plan.
