Fountain Valley Tutor Crushed By Car Dies of Injuries

The 32-year-old man was one of two people reportedly pinned by a sedan when it came crashing through a Fountain Valley business Monday.

A 32-year-old Huntington Beach man who taught at a Fountain Valley tutoring center has died from injuries sustained earlier this week, police said Wednesday.

On Monday, Alex Martinez was hit by a car which crashed through his place of employment at the Tutoring Club on Ellis Avenue, near Brookhurst Street, according to police and fire reports.

A total of six people were injured in the mid-day crash, two of them tutors at the location who were pinned by the car as it crashed through the building, according to fire and KTLA reports seen here.

"The most severely injured victim, Alex Martinez, 32 years old of Huntington Beach, was transported to a local trauma center with life threatening injuries," Fountain Valley Police Sgt. Steve DeSantis said in a press release Wednesday.   "Martinez remained in critical condition until he succumbed to his injuries on [August 21] at 7:15 a.m."

A 76-year-old Huntington Beach man was behind the wheel of the 2011 Buick LaCrosse sedan which crashed into the center, but it's not yet clear what led to the incident, according to DeSantis.  The sergeant said that no charges have been filed against that driver.

"The vehicle travelled completely into the business before coming to a stop," he said.

The other five people hurt in Monday's crash have all been released from the hospital, according to police.

Anyone who witnessed or has information regarding the collision is encouraged to call the Fountain Valley Police Traffic Bureau at (714) 593-4481.
