A 29-year-old man shot in his Huntington Beach home early Thursday was hospitalized in critical but stable condition, police said.

The man called police about 3:23 a.m. and reported that he had been shot by several attackers in his home in the 8200 block of Lambert Drive, according to Huntington Beach police Sgt. James Schoales.

The victim, whose name was not released, was taken to an area hospital, where he underwent surgery this afternoon for multiple gunshot wounds, Schoales said.

Police said there were indications of "ongoing criminal activity" in the home, and investigators do not believe the shooting was random. Detectives seized an undisclosed amount of drugs and cash at the residence, Schoales said, and also recovered a weapon believed to have been used in the attack.

Investigators were seeking multiple suspects and  questioned a witness, but declined to release further details.

Anyone with information was asked to call police at (714) 375-5066. Anonymous tips may be phoned in to Orange County Crime Stoppers at (855) 847- 6627, or TIP-OCCS
