City Seeking Volunteers for Service on Boards, Commissions

Applications for appointments are due Dec. 9.

The City of Fountain Valley is receiving applications from volunteers to sit on the Planning Commission, Community Foundation, Housing and Community Development Advisory Board and Advisory Committee for the Disabled.

Applications are available in the City Clerk’s Office located at 10200 Slater Ave., and online at fountainvalley.org. Appointments will be for two-year terms. Candidates for appointment must be residents of Fountain Valley and 18 years of age or older. The deadline for application submission to the City Clerk is 5 p.m. on Dec. 9.

Planning Commission
The Planning Commission acts in accordance with the ordinances of the city and state laws. It makes recommendations to the Coty Council regarding amendment or repeal of a Master Plan, development within the city, subdivision of land, blighted and substandard areas of the city, and zoning and land use. The Planning Commission meets on the second and fourth Wednesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. in the City Council chambers.

Fountain Valley Community Foundation
The Fountain Valley Community Foundation was organized exclusively for charitable purposes including soliciting, receiving, investing and making grants of funds, property and other resources, and to provide direct charitable services to aid, sponsor, promote, advance and assist worthy activities, programs and services in the City of Fountain Valley. Experience working with nonprofit organizations is desirable. The Fountain Valley Community Foundation meets on the third Thursday of every month at 5:30 p.m. in the Senior Center conference room.

Fountain Valley Housing and Community Development Advisory Board
The Housing and Community Development Advisory Board reviews the city’s Federal Block Grant program and recommends housing and community development activities to the City Council. The board meets on the first Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m. in the City Council chambers.

Advisory Committee for the Disabled
The primary functions of the Advisory Committee for the Disabled are to help develop barrier-free access to buildings and facilities in the city; provide information about recreation programs for the disabled; provide information of disaster preparedness for the disabled; develop community awareness of the employment potentials of the disabled; and inform the community about the
needs of the disabled population. The Advisory Committee for the Disabled meets on the firsdt Thursday of the odd-numbered months at 6:30 p.m. in the City Hall conference room.
