Fountain Valley Sewer, Water Rates to Increase

Officials say the rates must rise to keep up with the cost of providing service and purchasing imported water.

Water and sewer rates are set to go up Sept. 1 and raise again every year through 2017.

The average bi-monthly residential bill will rise by a few dollars each year, according to the city's notice of the August public hearing on the matter.

Starting this year, the average residential water and sewer bill will increase from $96.12 to $101.56. July 1, 2014, the average bill will rise to $107.38. July 1, 2015, the average bill will rise to $113.24. The average bill July 1 of 2016 and 2017 will be $119.46 and $126, respectively.

Officials say in the notice the rates are increasing to pay for operations and maintenance of both systems, improvements to the infrastructure and financial administration for the system. Also, the notice states the costs for groundwater and imported water are going up every year.

Questions or comments regarding the proposed rate should be directed to the City of Fountain Valley Public Works Department at 714-593-4433 or e-mail fvproud@fountainvalley.org. Copies of the studies upon which those proposed rates are based are available for public review, according to the notice.

The hearing on the matter will be 6 p.m. Aug. 20 at the Fountain Valley council chambers, 10200 Slater Avenue.
