Planning Commission OKs Light Pole Cell Antennas

Smaller, hidden devices would not require planning commission approval.

The Fountain Valley Planning Commission adopted  a resolution Wednesday night that would allow wireless communication antennas to be placed on light poles.

A conditional use permit is now required for all antenna installations and modifications, which can only occur in industrial areas. The new policy would allow smaller, hidden cellular antennas to be placed on top of light poles anywhere in the city, as long as the hardware is well-hidden enough to meet adminstrative review. The resolution will have to be adopted by the Fountain Valley City Council before it goes into effect.
