GGUSD Free Booster Shot Clinic Scheduled

Whooping cough booster vaccinations will be offered every Tuesday in July.

To help its students comply with a new state law requiring students in grades seven through 12 to receive a whooping cough booster shot, the Garden Grove Unified School District will provide free vaccinations every Tuesday afternoon in July.

The clinic for GGUSD students will be held from 1 to 5 p.m., at the district's Assessment and Registration Center clinic next to Cook Elementary School, 9802 Woodbury Rd., Garden Grove. The district clinic reopens August 22 at 8 a.m.

The new law requires all incoming seventh through 12th graders to receive a whooping cough booster shot, called “Tdap,” before entering school on Sept 8. Students who have not received this booster shot prior to the beginning of the 2011-12 school year will not be admitted to school. This new mandate includes current students, new students, and transfer students in both public and private schools. After next school year, only seventh-grade students will be required to prove they have been given the booster.

Students who have already received the vaccine simply need to supply documentation to the school. Proof of the Tdap booster shot must include the student’s name, date of birth, vaccine name, date the vaccine was administered, and name of the clinic, office or doctor administering the vaccine.
