MLB Throws Lifeline to High School Baseball Team
To help Los Amigos High recover from the theft of its baseball equipment, Major League Baseball plans to donate $4,000. The check will be delivered by the daughter of Hall of Famer Frank Robinson. Others have also chipped in to help.
Thanks to a , the coach of Los Amigos High School's baseball team went shopping Friday to replace his squad's stolen equipment.
On Monday, more help was expected to arrive, with a special assist from Hall of Famer Frank Robinson.
Earlier this week, the Angels foundation donated a $3,000 credit with Santa Ana-based Diamond Sports, which in turn gave the Fountain Valley high school team a 50 percent discount. Coach Art Maltby went shopping for his team today as donations continued to pour in from the public.

Robinson's daughter, Nichelle, will visit the school about 11:45 a.m. Monday to drop off a $4,000 check from Major League Baseball, according to Alan Trudell of the Garden Grove Unified School District.
Frank Robinson is executive vice president of baseball development for MLB and he oversees urban youth academies that benefit inner-city baseball players, Trudell said.

A groundskeeper locked up a storage shed about 4:30 p.m. Sunday, and when the volunteer returned about 9 a.m. Monday, the door was open and the lock cut, Sheppard said.
Thirty varsity and junior varsity players lost their equipment, Trudell said.
