Senior Center Offering Full Slate of Summer Classes, Activites

Opportunities abound in the coming months for active seniors looking to learn and grow.

Local seniors looking to learn, play or grow this summer have plenty of options thanks to a full schedule of classes and activities being offered over the next month at the .

Starting this Tuesday, seniors looking to boost their brain power can sign up for the city's Mental Gymnastics class. The class will be held from 9:30 to 11 a.m. every Tuesday through Aug. 7. The class will teach brain exercises to quicken mental abilities, memory and critical-thinking power, and will include interactive group work, brain teasers, Sudokus, and other visual puzzles. The cost to sign up is $47.

Also starting Tuesday and running through Aug. 7 is the Scrabble Scramble. This class, which goes from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m., August 7. Class will be held from 11:30 am to 1 pm. The class will teach strategy and reasoning to increase players' scores and help them have more fun playing. Participants with Scrabble sets are asked to bring them to the class. The cost to register is $53.

The center's main summer attraction will be held June 21 when the annual senior expo will be held. About 60 vendors will be on hand starting at 9:30 a.m., plus plenty of free samples and prize drawings. Extra parking is available at Fountain Valley High School with a shuttle, courtesy of Carmel Village, transporting the guests from the high school to the center.

Finally, for seniors looking to make a few extra bucks this summer, the center is offering its How to Sell on eBay class. This new class, which will be held Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. July 6 through  Aug. 24, will teach basic skills such as how to open a seller account, select and find items to sell, conduct research, create listings and apply auction secrets from a seasoned pro. Cost to register is $55.
