Elwyn Gearing Up for 14th Annual Bowlathon

Spots are still open for the event, which raises money to help Elwyn provide work and services to people with disabilities.

If you're looking to have a great time for a great cause this weekend in Fountain Valley, 14th annual Bowlathon is right up your alley.

Six spots are still open for teams wishing to participate in the event, which will be held Saturday night at from 4 to 8:30 p.m. The event will also feature casino games from 5:30 to 7:45 p.m., as well as a silent auction and door prizes.

"It's always exciting and fun," Elwyn's Joan McKinney said of the event. "It's hard to top them year after year. Everyone just comes out and has a great time."

All proceeds from the event will go to help Elwyn provide job training and placement for local residents with disabilities. Events such as this one, McKinney said, have become crucial in the face of ever-increasing belt-tightening by the state.

"Over the last 10 years, the reimbursements we get from the state have been reduced," she said. "So funds we receive from the Bowlathon help to bridge that gap. It's our biggest fundraising event, so it's critical to that."
